With last week’s release of MaxGalleria 2.0, we’ve been asked quite a bit about what we mean in terms of it being a “gallery platform”. It’s an important question, especially because we’re sort of breaking new ground for WordPress gallery plugins, so allow me to explain.

One of our customers posted a question on the forums about upgrading to MaxGalleria 2.0, and whether or not it will be a seamless upgrade. Apparently this person has had some bad experiences from other plugins, and is naturally cautious about blindly trusting the upgrade process, especially one such as ours with significant changes. It’s understandable, so let me explain how this will work.
This is a day long in the making, as we’ve been hard at work on this the last few months, but we can finally announce that MaxGalleria 2.0 is ready for mass consumption. As we wrote a few weeks ago, MaxGalleria has changed from a single plugin into a full-blown gallery platform for WordPress.
A couple weeks ago we announced that MaxGalleria was changing from a single WordPress gallery plugin into a full-blown gallery platform for WordPress. There was a lot of information to digest in that announcement, and we’ve received a lot of great feedback about it, but one question that people kept asking was, “What about current MaxGalleria customers, how will this change affect them?”.
We have been hard at work over the last few months working on a major change to MaxGalleria. In short, MaxGalleria is changing from a single plugin into a full-blown gallery platform for WordPress. This new platform will consist of a core plugin that provides all standard gallery functionality, as well as a number of addons to enhance and extend gallery capabilities. This is a lengthy post, but well worth the read, so let’s get started.
