Grandfathering for Existing MaxGalleria Customers
A couple weeks ago we announced that MaxGalleria was changing from a single WordPress gallery plugin into a full-blown gallery platform for WordPress. There was a lot of information to digest in that announcement, and we’ve received a lot of great feedback about it, but one question that people kept asking was, “What about current MaxGalleria customers, how will this change affect them?”.
Before we answer that, here’s the list of things in the new MaxGalleria platform that people will need to get the same functionality in the current version:
– MaxGalleria (free core plugin)
– Image Carousel addon (paid)
– Image Showcase addon (paid)
– Image Slider addon (paid)
– Video Showcase addon (paid)
– Vimeo addon (paid)
– YouTube addon (paid)
For current MaxGalleria customers, it wouldn’t be right of us to make them pay for 6 addons that they’ve essentially already paid for, at least not within their current license period. So the grandfathering rules for existing MaxGalleria customers is simple:
The addons mentioned above will be free to existing customers for their remaining license period.
Our standard license period is 1 year, and we’re planning on releasing the new MaxGalleria platform on April 30, 2014, so let’s look at a couple examples.
Example 1: A customer bought MaxGalleria on Sept 15, 2013. This customer gets the above paid addons (and any updates to those addons) for free for about 4.5 months, until Sept 15, 2014. At that time, this customer will need to renew the license for each of those addons they want to continue using.
Example 2: A customer bought MaxGalleria on March 1, 2014. This customer gets the above paid addons (and any updates to those addons) for free for 11 months, until March 1, 2015. At that time, this customer will need to renew the license for each of those addons they want to continue using.
Example 3: A customer bought MaxGalleria on January 30, 2013, but hasn’t renewed their license for the current version. This customer does NOT get the above paid addons for free and will need to purchase the addons they want for their site.
